Every once in a while, what I’d like to do is take a break from all the doom and gloom, and focus on something positive to come out of the normal trouble spots of this fandom. Might as well start doing that now.
This is an idea submitted to LEGO’s Cuusoo service, pitching an idea for a female-oriented constraction line (think BIONICLE and Hero Factory) to complement LEGO’s new Friends theme. Though there are no example LEGO models (which, while the lack thereof is understandable here, I swear is kind of against the rules of Cuusoo), it’s accompanied by a very lengthy and well thought-out discussion of the pitch and concepts to be explored therein. It’s not quite perfect (I for one can think of a few changes I’d make), but it’s still a great idea accompanied by a fantastic explanation, and it’s apparently getting quite a lot of attention from other sites. This sort of thing, my friends, is almost why Cuusoo exists.
To make this even better, the comments discussion so far is actually pretty good. Though there are quite a few less intelligent comments pointing out that LEGO Friends exists as if that fills the role of this idea, plenty of great questions and points are raised. On the other hand, I shudder to think what’ll happen when the BRING BACK BONKLES crowd finds out that this exists…
A friend of mine who still frequents BZP let me know about this, and while there are a few issues with it (for one, the designs feel way too Mega Manny to me) it’s really a good idea and a good use of the Cuusoo service. I’d actually been meaning to submit this to LoLV, but I’m glad to have been beaten to the punch.
