Please, please watch the BBC series Sherlock.

We watch TV, or read, or play games, or whatever because we want to be able to walk away and say “I am glad I spent my time doing that just now.”  We want to be able to be entertained or informed or maybe just made to feel something we can’t feel on a normal day. 

Sherlock does that.  It is smart.  It is brilliantly acted.  It takes the oldest premise in the book - Sherlock Holmes, the stories we all know - and it revives them.  It makes them new, it makes them real to us.  It gives us a sociopath for a main character, and without us even realizing it it makes us love him, and everyone around him.  We love the story of Sherlock and John, the detective and the doctor, dancing through these stories that we thought we’d gotten all we could from.  But we haven’t, and it is beautiful to see that.

It is what entertainment TV should be.  It gives us drama and comedy and mysteries and we are enthralled by it - we are there with Sherlock and John, cheering them on, mourning their failures, celebrating their successes.

It’s Sherlock, and it should be watched by everyone.  And I mean everyone.
