i. oh my god. WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS THE VAST AMOUNT OF FEELINGS I AM REELING IN RIGHT NOW. CU, can you just like…take over Greg’s job as writer and finish the rest of those Bionicle serials??
Oh man, anyway. I find it difficult to ship Lewa/Onua cause a) Onua’s personality isn’t very well defined to me as I mentioned before. so him being in a relationship (even a friendly one) is a bit hard to grasp and b) no one’s done this ship right in the past.
BUT THIS. Everything just came…so naturally. it was so. perfect. sense-making. feels.
i’m not even stringing together proper sentences right now.I like how you characterize the Toa too. Especially the small things like how Lewa and Onua eat, it’s fantastic- little details like this are just great! I love how Lewa took charge of the whole meeting too, and his reasoning behind brushing off Onua like that. That was really well thought out and sweet. And hoo boy, I was totally not expecting that kiss at the end. I think you did a great job writing it out. (Giddy!Onua is adorable asdfgh.)
PS: LEWA. since when did you speak Agoran!?
It is the great honor of any author to hear he has caused feels. I think I’d better not take over the serials though, all of a sudden nobody would get any real plot done because they’d be too busy having emotions all the time.
But yeah these guys are kind of hard to write together because like you said Onua can be kind of ill-defined in canon… so Lewa had to drive a lot of it. BUT I WILL NOT ALLOW THIS SHIP TO GO DOWN WITHOUT AT LEAST ATTEMPTING TO BAIL OUT THE WATER. And hopefully I did? Ish? I mean it’s a pretty small ship to begin with, it wasn’t a lot of water but there weren’t many lifeboats either where was I going with this metaphor? But I digress, I don’t think I need to write out why I ship them again after that embarrassingly long post a week or so back.
And yeah I just hope I didn’t overdo it with Onua at the end, I just figure even he’d be a little cloud-niney after realizing he and his best friend were actually a bit more than best friends. Not so cloud-niney he couldn’t give an Ackar-Kopaka Glare™ to an overly fussy Agori, though.
PS: Hooked on Phonics, duh. Actually totally forgot that he missed the magic everyone-speaks-Agori beam. But if we’re going strictly by canon he should still be hostage with some crazy Agori forever, but screw it this is set is like three, four months after the serials let up, let’s just say he escaped in some wacky misadventure and somehow learned the language along the way.
Ahhh! I love it! The characters stayed so…well, so in-character, and Lewa was perfect. So was the ending. It’s been a while since I read Frustration, so I don’t feel up to comparing them, but I think Adaptions holds up pretty well. Anyway, I really enjoyed reading this!
Glad to hear you enjoyed it, and that the characters seemed in-character! I’ve mentioned it before (with an overly dramatic Willem DaFoe gif), but the thing about writing really weird pairings is that the whole time you’re like “am I completely violating the characters by doing this?”
And finally, to this (since-removed) anonymous review on ff.net:
